The Katana is ideal for recreational paddling and shorter expeditions. It is smaller and lighter than the Skua making it very easy to handle both on and off the water. It has excellent secondary stability and the lower primary stability makes it easy to edge and manoeuvre. Even the novice paddler will soon adjust to the characteristics of the Katana. It has a vertical bow to maximise the waterline length and therefore speed for the overall length. The Katana is great downwind and catches runs very easily without an excessive tendency to broach.

The Katana is designed as a recreational and occasional touring kayak. It is fitted with a large hatch aft, which can accommodate enough gear for shorter expeditions. The Katana is not designed around racing, but its good speed and excellent handling characteristics mean that it is still competitive. The Katana can be supplied with a retractable skeg, instead of a rudder, for more extreme applications where the deck needs to be as clean as possible.

Ability

The Katana is suitable for all paddlers from beginners through to experts. Even a novice would enjoy a Katana in safe and calm conditions. At the other end of the scale, an expert would be able to handle the most extreme sea-kayaking conditions.
